New head physician for hematology, stem cell transplantation and oncology at Helios Hospital Erfurt
Helios Hospital Erfurt is pleased to introduce the new Head Physician of the 4th Medical Clinic (Hematology, Stem Cell Transplantation, Oncology), Prof. Dr. med. Sebastian Scholl. The 50-year-old succeeds Prof. Dr. med. Herbert G. Sayer, who will continue to serve both as Dean of the Health and Medical University Erfurt and as Head of the Oncology Center.
"We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to Professor Sayer for his many years of commitment and outstanding work," emphasizes Clinic Managing Director Florian Lendholt, adding: "Haematology and oncology have continued to develop under his leadership, particularly with the successful introduction of autologous stem cell transplantation. Professor Scholl has over 20 years of clinical experience, including more than 15 years as a senior physician. In addition, both his many years of teaching at Jena University Hospital and, in particular, his involvement in the international "Molecular Medicine" degree program should be highlighted. Professor Scholl has been Deputy Clinic Director at Jena University Hospital since October 2020.
Professor Scholl has extensive experience in the field of leukemia and lymphoma therapy, internal oncology and stem cell transplantation and has been jointly responsible for the implementation of CAR T-cell therapy in recent years. The leadership of his research group has resulted in extensive publications, particularly on acute myeloid leukemia and overcoming therapy resistance.
