Helios HSK Wiesbaden: New Clinical Director for Gastroenterology
The Clinic for Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology at Helios HSK Wiesbaden has been under the management of Prof. Dr. Ingmar Mederacke (43) since mid-September. The specialist for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract succeeds Prof. Dr. Ralf Kiesslich, who has been Medical Director of Helios HSK for around two years. Senior consultant Dr. Daniel Teubner has taken over as acting head in the meantime.
"In Prof. Mederacke, we have gained a very experienced and broadly trained gastroenterologist who worked for many years as managing senior physician in one of the largest gastroenterology departments in Germany at Hanover Medical School. He has a broad spectrum of internal medicine and many years of management experience. He will further develop the important, high-performance clinic for internal medicine with the abdominal center and firmly establish it in our new building after the move," says Prof. Dr. Ralf Kiesslich, Medical Director of Helios HSK.
Commercial Director Sven Axt adds: "At the same time, we would like to thank Dr. Teubner most sincerely for his outstanding commitment over the past two years. He has successfully managed the clinic on an interim basis and will remain active as Section Head of Endoscopy in Gastroenterology. We are very pleased about this."
Prof. Dr. Ingmar Mederacke grew up in Berlin and Eltville and is thus returning to his home town. After studying human medicine at the University of Mainz, he began his specialist training in internal medicine at Hannover Medical School. During a three-year research stay at Columbia University in New York, USA, he worked intensively on pathological changes in the liver, in particular the development of liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. "It is important to me to offer our patients cutting-edge medicine at university level. As a cross-sectional internal medicine specialty, the field of gastroenterology, hepatology and endocrinology needs strong interdisciplinary partners. At Helios HSK, we are excellently positioned in this respect with general and visceral surgery, radiology and a strong oncology department. I am looking forward to working with my colleagues and my strong team. The prospect of the new rooms in our new building, with which we will score additional points, is also very motivating," says Prof. Dr. Ingmar Mederacke.
Prof. Dr. Mederacke has been a senior physician at the Clinic for Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Infectiology and Endocrinology at the MHH since 2018, and was Managing Senior Physician from 2020. He is a specialist in internal medicine and internal medicine and gastroenterology. He also has additional qualifications in emergency medicine, laboratory diagnostics in internal medicine, nutritional medicine, infectiology in internal medicine and palliative medicine and holds a Master's degree in health economics (MHBA). He is a member of the Commission for Medical Classification and Health Economics of the German Society for Gastroenterology, Digestive and Metabolic Diseases (DGVS).
