Helios Hospital Bad Saarow: Dr. med. Ibrahim new Head Physician at the Clinic for Vascular Surgery

Generational change in vascular surgery: Dr. med. Walid Ibrahim (44) has taken over as Head of the Vascular Surgery Clinic at Helios Hospital Bad Saarow on October 1, 2023. As Chief Physician, he will continue and further develop the comprehensive vascular surgery care. The previous and long-serving head physician, Dr. med. Jens Kühn (64), will take his well-deserved retirement. With this change in leadership, the Center for Vascular Medicine at the Bad Saarow Clinic, which consists of the departments of vascular surgery, angiology and radiology, will be guided safely into a new future on a broad, high-quality foundation.

Dr. Walid Ibrahim is a specialist in vascular surgery with the additional qualifications of phlebology, endovascular surgeon and endovascular specialist.

He is no stranger to the Bad Saarow clinic. After studying medicine in Greifswald and at Charité as well as two years of residency in vascular surgery at Helios Hospital Berlin-Buch, Dr. Ibrahim worked at the vascular surgery clinic at Helios Hospital Bad Saarow from 2007 to 2021 - first as a junior doctor, then as a specialist, three years as a senior consultant and finally four years as a senior consultant. From 2014, he helped build up the area of hybrid operations in vascular surgery here, especially operations on the aorta (main artery).

In October 2021, Dr. Ibrahim went to the Helios Weißeritztal-Kliniken and the Helios Hospital Pirna as Chief Physician. Now the experienced physician and recognized expert in the field of vascular surgery is back.

Helios Hospital Bad Saarow is confident that this change in the management of the Clinic for Vascular Surgery will help to further improve the quality of medical care in the long term and continue to offer patients first-class treatment options in a professionally established center.

The Department of Vascular Surgery was established and developed by Dr. Herbert Volkmar. It has been a firmly established clinic since 1976 and has established itself as one of the most efficient centers for vascular medicine in the state of Brandenburg. Over the last twenty years - then under the leadership of Dr. Andreas Gussmann and Dr. Jens Kühn - the specializations of the department have been further developed, particularly in the minimally invasive endovascular treatment of vascular diseases, also in combination with classic vascular surgery methods.

Since 2002, Bad Saarow has been carrying out complex endovascular treatment of aortic arch aneurysms, thoracoabdominal aneurysms as well as endovascular treatment of complex occlusion processes of the aorta and iliac arteries with a high level of expertise. With the establishment of a state-of-the-art vascular laboratory and a hybrid operating theatre, Bad Saarow has become a recognized Helios Aortic Centre.

Dr. Jens Kühn has been Chief Physician at the Clinic for Vascular Surgery at the Bad Saarow Clinic and a member of the Berlin Brandenburg Vascular Medicine Center since 2017.
